Fields of Mistria Beginner's Guide: Your First Week, Day by Day
A day-by-day roadmap for Spring 1-7 in Fields of Mistria: which tools you get for free, which quests to finish first, when the Mines open, and how to set up a money loop that funds the rest of your first season.
How This Roadmap Works
Fields of Mistria does not punish slow play: quests never expire, seasons only matter for crops and collections, and you cannot lock yourself out of content. So treat this roadmap as an efficient route, not a strict script. The goals for week one are simple: collect every free tool, plant your first crops, repair the bridge, and reach Renown Level 10 so the Mines open as early as possible.
Two habits carry the whole week. First, check the Request Board between the General Store and the Mill every morning — requests pay a premium over shipping prices and are your fastest Renown. Second, grab the free soup from the cauldron at the Sleeping Dragon Inn before any long work session; it restores 20 health and 20 stamina and costs nothing.
Days 1-2: Free Tools and First Seeds
Day 1. Head north into town and up the stone stairs to trigger the introduction cutscene. Adeline gives you the "Greet the Townsfolk" quest — walk the whole map and introduce yourself to all 22 residents. Turning it in pays 3 Potato Seeds and 100 Tesserae, which is your first real seed stock. Along the way you receive the two core farming tools for free: Celine hands you the Worn Hoe and Hayden hands you the Worn Watering Can during day one.
Before sleeping, clear a small patch on your farm (start with 12-16 tiles, not a giant field), till it, and plant Turnips bought from the General Store at 25t per seed. Turnips mature in 4 days and sell for 40t, so they are the fastest way to convert your starting purse into working capital.
Day 2. Two things happen automatically. Eiland gives you the Worn Axe at the start of the day, letting you chop trees for the wood every early quest demands. Check your mail and the Request Board: Errol's letter starts "Museum Donations Wanted" (meet him at the Museum in the Narrows for a 100t reward), and the board quest "Do a Bro a Favor" sends you to Olric, who gives you the Worn Pickaxe. With axe and pickaxe in hand, spend the afternoon breaking rocks and chopping trees — you will need 60 Wood and 60 Stone very soon.
If you want to fish, the Worn Fishing Rod costs 500t at the Tackle Shop on the Beach. It is worth buying within the first few days because fish sell for roughly 35-40t each and fishing also levels a skill, but seeds come first.
Days 3-4: Bridge Repairs and the Money Loop
By day 3, Adeline's letter unlocks "Repair the Bridge": meet her near the broken bridge on the Eastern Road, then deposit 60 Wood and 60 Stone into the Donation Box. This is the single most important early project — finishing it activates the Saturday Market, where four extra merchants set up in the town square each week and most villagers gather in one convenient spot for gifting.
The follow-up quest, "Restocking Mistria's Food Reserves," simply asks you to sell 10 crops. Your first Turnip harvest (planted day 1) lands around day 5, so this completes naturally if you keep planting. Reinvest every harvest: a healthy rhythm in week one is to spend about two-thirds of each payout on new seeds and keep the rest as a buffer for the fishing rod, backpack space, or request turn-ins.
Start your daily loop now: water crops → check the Request Board → free soup at the Inn → chop/mine/forage → fish or socialize in the evening. Forage everything you pass; most forageables only sell for 5-30t, but they cost zero stamina to pick up and they feed requests, the Museum, and your stamina bar in a pinch.
Days 5-7: Museum, Requests, and the Mines
Renown is the gate for the Mines: the town needs to reach Renown Level 10 (Stone Star Rank), and the Mines open shortly after, typically around Spring 6-7 if you have been active. Renown comes from three sources — Museum donations, shipped items, and completed quests — so donate one of every new fish, bug, crop, and artifact to Errol instead of selling everything.
Each Renown level also drops a reward into the chest beside the Request Board. Level 1 alone pays a 100t Purse of Tesserae, and Level 10 awards a Stamina Up (permanently +20 max stamina) — claim the chest every time you rank up.
Use days 5-7 to stockpile for the Mines opening: cook or carry stamina food, keep your inventory light, and bank roughly 1,000t. Your first mining sessions should target Copper Ore so you can forge Copper Ingots and upgrade tools — a Copper Watering Can or Copper Pickaxe (4 Copper Ingots + 1,000t at the Blacksmith) is the best week-two purchase you can make.
Week One Checklist and Common Mistakes
If you hit every item below, your first week was a success:
- All free tools collected (hoe, watering can, axe, pickaxe — fishing rod and bug net optional but cheap)
- "Greet the Townsfolk" and "Museum Donations Wanted" turned in
- Bridge repaired; first Saturday Market attended
- At least 20-30 crops planted across the week, first harvest sold
- Renown Level 10 reached and the Mines unlocked
- One of everything new donated to the Museum
The classic mistakes are all variations on overreach. Do not till a huge field — a Worn Watering Can waters one tile at a time, and a 40-plot farm will eat your entire stamina bar before 9 AM. Do not sell your first of every item; Museum sets pay Renown you cannot buy back cheaply. Do not stay out past 2 AM — collapsing costs you four hours the next morning and leaves you at 75% health and stamina. And finally, do not hoard Wood and Stone: early projects ask for hundreds of units, so a chest on the farm filled with both is never wasted.
💡 Pro Tip
The Request Board pays a delivery premium — an item worth 100t in the shipping bin can pay 120t or more as a request turn-in. Check the board every morning before you sell anything valuable.
